Zone 9 fig froze

Hardiness ratings are no guarantee. Even though the common fig, Ficus carica, is rated hardy in USDA zone 8, unusual cold spells can always have the final say.

This fig is a cousin to Ficus carica and is rated hardy to zone 9. It was killed back by the record breaking lows that occurred in southern California in the 2012-2013 winter. It will recover but it's temporarily smaller and fruitless.
